Description: 9 - 11"; wading bird; adult brown above, white below with 2 black breast bands; red eye ring; in flight, displays an orange rump, long tail, white wing stripe.

Habitat: Fields, lawns, shores, riverbanks, playgrounds, golf courses

Range: Canada to central Mexico, West Indies, Peru

Food: Small marine life, insects, some plant matter

Status: Common
