Park ranger excavating loggerhead nest, pausing to answer questions. The nest hole is almost in the center of the photo where there is a dark area of sand. 3 unhatched eggs have been removed and set aside to be placed back in the nest cavity once it has been completely excavated. It is normal to find unhatched eggs and live hatchlings in the nest. The unhatched eggs are unlikely to hatch.
