Species: Phycoides tharos , Pearl Cresent
Description: 1 - 1/2" wingspan; male above, broad open orange areas with wide black margin; female above, with heavier black markings; below, orange forewing with black patches along margin and some cream colored spots; hindwing yellowish or cream colored with fine brown lines and purplish brown area with light crescent on margin.
Habitat: Meadows, fields, roadsides, pastures, streambanks
Range: southern Ontario, most of central and eastern US, south into Mexico
